Preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD) is a screening test used to determine if genetic or chromosomal disorders are present in embryos produced through in vitro fertilization (IVF).
PGD is performed on embryos to allow moms and dads to make informed decisions about whether to move forward with transferring embryo(s) unaffected by any genetic or chromosomal disorders to the uterus or to undergo an additional round of round of egg retrieval and fertilization. to produce a new set of embryos.
PGD used to cost several thousands of dollars, and still does at some clinics. Morgan Fertility has partnered with a genetics lab leading the field in both technology and cost effectiveness,
This makes us very proud to say that we have been able to literally cut patient out of pocket cost for PGD in half over the last two years.
Preimplantation genetic diagnosis may be recommended to couples undergoing IVF,when:
One or both partners has a history of heritable genetic disorders
One or both partners is a carrier of a chromosomal abnormality
The mother is of advanced maternal age
The mother has a history of recurrent miscarriage
There is also Preimplanttion Genetic Screening (PGS) which is slightly different in that it is more comprehensive and costs more.
