IVF Treatment Basics

What is IVF?

In Vitro Fertilization is the most effective fertility treatment available today. It involves a multi-week process in which eggs are removed from a female's ovaries, fertilized with sperm in a petri dish, grown inside a lab for several days (usually 3-5), then transferring into the female's uterus to develop for the remainder of gestation.

Overview

What is IVF?

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is the most effective fertility treatment available. During IVF, eggs are retrieved from your ovaries and fertilized with sperm in our state-of-the-art embryology laboratory. The resulting embryos are then transferred to your uterus, giving you the best possible chance of achieving pregnancy.

  • Gold standard fertility treatment
  • Allows for genetic testing of embryos (PGT-A)
  • Option to freeze extra embryos for future use
  • Suitable for various fertility challenges

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about IVF treatment

Success rates vary based on many individual factors including age, diagnosis, and treatment history. During your consultation, we'll review the latest SART data and provide personalized estimates based on your specific situation. Our team will be transparent about what you can realistically expect.

A typical IVF cycle takes about 4-6 weeks from the start of medication to the pregnancy test. This includes 8-14 days of ovarian stimulation, egg retrieval, 3-5 days of embryo development, and transfer, followed by a two-week wait for the pregnancy test.

Most patients experience minimal discomfort. The daily injections are given with small needles, and the egg retrieval is performed under sedation so you won't feel anything during the procedure. Some bloating and mild cramping after retrieval is normal and typically resolves within a few days.

We generally recommend single embryo transfer (SET) to minimize the risk of multiple pregnancy while optimizing your chances of a healthy pregnancy. The decision is made collaboratively based on your age, embryo quality, and personal preferences.
